I recently stumbled onto a few Baby Name videos on YouTube. Then I began to get caught up watching one after the other. I watched this one and it inspired me to write about it! It is a little different than what I have been writing, but I thought the baby name challenge was a fun, light topic.
For those of you who don’t know, I don’t have any children of my own right now. I’m not with child or anything, I have always thought about what I would name my kids and I think it is interesting to hear about what others use.
Baby Name Challenge
- What is your favorite boy and girls name from the top names list?
The link attached above is of the top 100 names of 2018, which is the list I used. I did love a lot more of the boy names compared to the girl names. I don’t know if that’s because I’m too picky or what, but the boy’s list spoke to me more.Boy: Grayson/Greyson and Everett are my favorites from the list. Even though they are on the top 100, I still think they are unique which I like.
Girl: Ella and Ava were the two I liked from the list. I like that they are short and have a bit of a whimsical feel to them. Ella is one of my favorite girl names to begin with so I was happy to see it make the list.

What is your lease favorite boys and girls name from the top names list?
I am limiting myself to three names because I know there are a lot on the girls list that I really didn’t like.
Boy: Hunter, Maverick, and King were my least favorite. I don’t really have a good reason why I don’t like them. I just don’t picture myself calling my children by those names.
Girl: Gianna, Mila, and Niamey were my least favorite. For the same reason as the boys, I don’t see myself having a child with those names. They don’t vibe with me.

If you had twins, what would you call them? b/b – b/g – g/g
I know a lot of parents with twins try to keep the beginning letter the same or have the names be very similar. I personally don’t like that because being a twin is hard enough having similar names makes it difficult for them to feel like individuals. But I also try to pick names that sound nice together as twins.
Boy/boy: Andrew and Zander. I like the A-Z bit in the two names. I also like that Zander is spelled with a Z and not an X.
Boy/girl: Lincoln and Charlotte. They both are longer names but they both have a bold, yet timeless feeling to them.
Girl/girl: Stella and Nova. They both have a galactic theme, but they are unique and different from each other. -
If you could change your name to anything, what would it be?
I asked my family what they thought I could change it to that matched my personality. They said: Megan, Claire, Brittney, or Heather. I personally like Clarke. It is unique and strong and still starts with the “K” sound. If you watch The 100 on the CW, the main female lead is named Clarke.

You have four children, any gender, their names have to start with the same letter. what names would you choose?
For this one, I looked up a random letter generator and went with the first letter that came up which was “N”!
Noelle, Navy, Nolan, Niell
I picked these four, two girls and two boys respectively because the boys both mean champion. Navy, which could be used for a boy or a girl is more of an unusual name but refers to the color and military meaning which goes along with the champion theme. Noelle is the odd one out because it means Christmas. I think those four names complement each other very well as well. -
What’s your favorite celebrity baby name?
Although North West is very clever it isn’t my favorite celebrity name. I love strong, old-fashioned names. Lincoln is probably my favorite celebrity boy name. For a girl I like Charlize, Charlie for short. I like the uniqueness of Charlize, but how it is still modern.
-
What’s your favorite animal-inspired name?
I like the name Robin, both for girl and boy. I am a big Once Upon a Time Fan (sad that it’s over) and they used Robin for Robin Hood, but also for a female. Names that can work with both genders are usually unique and have a mix of masculinity and femininity. Unisex names are so interesting to me.
-
What’s your favorite color inspired name?
For this one, I needed to look up a list of colors. All I could think of were the basic primary and secondary colors and I didn’t like those.
Girl: Jade
Boy: Greyson -
What are your top 3 favorite boy names?
Everett is my favorite for a boy. It has been one of my favorites for quite a few years.
Greyson is my second favorite. I think I fell in love with it because of Grayson Chance. I just prefer to spell it with an “E” instead of an “A”
My third favorite is Elias. I think it is unique and is a different twist on “Elijah”.
-
What are your top 3 favorite girl names?
My top favorite is Ella Mae. Cinderella is my Favorite Disney Princess which is where Ella comes from and Mae is my sister’s middle name. I think those two sound nice together. If I ever have a daughter I really want to name her Ella Mae.
My second favorite is Charlie/Charlotte. It can be feminine and masculine at the same time
My third favorite is Maisie. I listen to this YouTuber and then stumbled upon her name while I was looking around at other names. I like the whimsical side of the name and how unique it is.
-
What is your ultimate guilty pleasure name?
Elias is one of my favorites that I don’t know if I will use because it is unique. It is Walt Disney’s middle name, he was Walter Elias Disney. The Disney fan in me really enjoys that name. Finley is one I love for a girl…but it is also a great dog name. Because it is a popular dog name I don’t think I’d use if for my child.
-
What are your most hated baby names?
Girl: Sarah and Kelsey
Boy: Adam
I don’t have any reason to hate these names….I just don’t like them. Now, I have a few friends named Sarah so if you read this, sorry I just won’t be naming my kids after you. -
Choose a baby name based on a food/drink
Honestly, the first thing I thought of was “Hot Wings”. Probably not a good name for a child.
Girl: Clementine
Boy: ColbyJust a coincidence they both start with “C”. I giggled to myself because you could have a child named Colby Jack. The cheese lover in me loves that name.
-
Choose a baby name based on a month
Girl: June
Boy: AugustJune is probably my favorite month to name a child after. You could have June as a nickname and go with a longer “June” name like Juniper. I think August is the best pick for a boy and makes me think of August Rush. -
Choose a baby name from a movie
There are so many to choose from! I googled top movies and clicked the first one which was Citizen Kane….which I have never seen. However, after looking at the list, I think my favorite is Jeddiah LeLand. All of the other names were pretty basic, this one stood out to me the most.

Choose a name that’s already in your family
Girl: Rosemary
Boy: ChristopherMy family reuses middle names so I already know I’ll honor past family members that way. Rosemary is my grandmother’s aunt. I don’t know what her title would be to me…great aunt? I really like old fashioned names like this for boys and girls because of how unique they are.
Christopher would be my pick for a boy. My uncle died when he was 6 of Cystic Fibrosis. I was never able to meet him but my brother has Christopher as his middle name. It would be nice to give his name a fresh light and a new face.
Huzzah! You made it through the Baby Name Challenge!
I’m going to list out the names mentioned for easy looking and pinning! This was interesting to me because I picked a lot of Irish/Celtic/Scottish names. I think everyone has their own unique way of picking names and when you name a child with your partner you have to find a balance between the two.
Were there names you liked? Some you didn’t? How would you answer the questions? Leave me a comment!
